8 December 1942 Construction began with the laying of the keel at the Cramp Shipbuilding Company, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

20 February 1944 Ship launched.

22 December 1944 USS Oklahoma City was commissioned at 1500 at the Navy Yard, Philadelphia, Pa. Rear Admiral W.F. Draemel accepted the ship from the builders, Cramp Shipbuilding Company, Philadelphia, Pa., and turned the vessel over to Captain C.B. Hunt, U.S. Navy, who assumed command. Guests at commissioning ceremony included Mrs. Anton H. Classen, ship's sponsor.

22 December 1944 - 14 January 1945 At Navy Yard, Philadelphia, Pa., for completion of fitting out period. Attached to Commandant, Fourth Naval District.

14 January 1945 Underway for trial run in Delaware River.

15 - 26 January 1945 This period was spent fitting out, taking on stores and ammunition and running tests prior to shakedown cruise at Navy Yard, Philadelphia and the lower Delaware Bay.

15 August 1945 Received AlNav from SecNav that Japan had accepted Potsdam peace terms. Received order to cease present operation.

15 August - 5 September 1945 On patrol duty off Japan with Task Group 38.1.

5 - 10 September 1945 Became a unit of Task Group 38.2, continuing patrol duty off eastern coast of Japan.

10 September 1945 Entered Tokyo Bay with Task Group 38.2.

10 - 15 September 1945 At anchor in Tokyo Bay off Yokahoma.

15 - 20 September 1945 Sortied from Tokyo Bay, continued patrol duty with Task Group 38.2.

20 September 1945 Task Group 38.2 changed to Fifth Fleet, became Task Group 58.2.

21 - 26 September 1945 En route in company with the cruiser USS Flint (CL-97) and escorting destroyers for Eniwetok Atoll, Western Marshall Islands.

13 October 1945 Returned to Tokyo Bay 13 October and conducted local operations from that port

10 - 12 November 1945 Sailed for Hiro Wan (the bay between Hiroshima and Matsuyama).

14 November 1945 Captain D.L. Madeira, in command of Oklahoma City, relieved Rear Admiral Ralph S. Riggs as area commander and assumed command of Task Group 55.3.

27 November 1945 Captain Madeira relinquished this command to Rear Admiral Emmet P. Forrestal in USS Baltimore (CA-68) at Kure, Japan 27 November 1945.

30 November - 1 December 1945 Oklahoma City sailed for Sasebo, arriving 1 December 1945.

1 December 1945 - 30 January 1946 In port Sasebo, Japan.

3 December 1945 Commodore G. Van Deurs, U.S.N., Commander Task Group 55.2, hoisted his flag in Oklahoma City.

29 January 1946 G. Van Deurs, U.S.N., Commander Task Group 55.2, shifted his flag to the USS Atlanta (CL-104).

30 January - 14 February 1946 On 30 January Oklahoma City departed Sasebo for the United States. She arrived at San Francisco 14 February.

15 August 1946 Oklahoma City entered the Mare Island Navy Yard for inactivation.

30 June 1947 Oklahoma City was placed out of commission and assigned to the San Francisco Group, U.S. Pacific Reserve Fleet.
